Tips for your application

Applications to NHS Jobs aren’t as simple as submitting a CV, so please give yourself the time and space to thoroughly complete your application.

The NHS Job process is anonymous, meaning a hiring manager will not see any of your personal details, including your name. The application is judged solely on how well you match with what has been asked for in the job description.

Read through the job description thoroughly for a good understanding of the role and what it entails, including the person specification. You may want to contact the hiring manager and arrange a time for a call to discuss the position

Ensure you complete every part of the application form. The supporting information is your chance to sell yourself and your skills. Keep the person specification and job description to reference back to when you are writing the application. Match your supporting information against what is being asked for. Tailor the additional information section so your experience relates to the job description and use examples where possible that demonstrates how you meet the criteria. It’s not enough to say “I have done this”, so take time to get your points across and be concise.

Double check for any spelling or grammar mistakes in your application. Try not to use acronyms – not everyone will know the abbreviation.

Make sure you ask for any reasonable adjustments you may need throughout the recruitment process. As an inclusive employer, we will do our best to help.

Submit your application in advance of the closing date. You can check your progress at any time on your TRAC account.

If you are invited for an interview, preparation is key. It can help to research Cardiff and Vale University Health Board and revisit the job advert and description.

If you see another job you want to apply for, you will need to complete a separate application for each role you apply for. Your application details will be stored on your account, so you do not need to re-enter these details in the future.
