Y Gegin is UHW's bright vibrant restaurant offering a selection of healthy, freshly cooked food.
The name — which is Welsh for ‘The Kitchen’ — was chosen by health board colleagues.
The restaurant embodies the back-to-basics approach of wholesome, nutritious and affordable meals for staff and visitors to enjoy. Y Gegin offers a Theatre Cookery Counter where fresh pasta and stir-fries are cooked while you wait, and a BBQ that offers fresh marinated meat with a selection of salads and rustic rolls.
It also includes a full hot meal vending service. This is not currently available during normal opening hours but will be available 24/7 in the near future. A limited vending service is also available in the Emergency Unit.
Profits from the restaurant will be re-invested back into the health board for patient services.
The launch of the new restaurant comes as the UHB celebrates its Hospital Restaurants and Retail Food Standards Policy, the first of its kind in Wales, which aims to make healthy options the easier choice. The local Public Health Team is working with the operational and catering teams to ensure that 75% of all food and drink meet requirements for sugar and fat content.
Aroma Express is situated within Y Gegin and is open from 7.00am – 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
