This page is for patients and their families/carers who are referred to the WSCIRC. If you are a health care professional wanting to refer a patient, please use the following link National Spinal Cord Injury Database.
The Welsh Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Centre (WSCIRC) is based at the University Hospital Llandough (UHL). It is the only centre located in Wales for Spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and you may still hear it referred to as Rookwood (where it was previously located).
The centre offers a multidisciplinary team approach to rehabilitation and provides life-long review and care for people with a spinal cord injury. Rehabilitation is a process of teaching, enabling and supporting individuals (and their families) to maximise independence and become experts in their own condition and its management.
Our broad philosophy is to work with individuals to help them:
The WSCIRC is part of a network of specialist Spinal cord injury centres across UK and Ireland. We cover South, West and part of Mid Wales with North Wales being covered by Oswestry.
