The Peritoneal Malignancy Institute of Wales (PMI), located at the University Hospital of Wales, is currently the only centre in Wales offering treatment for peritoneal malignancy through Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC).
Historically, patients in Wales did not have local access to this specialised treatment and were referred to centres in England—such as Basingstoke or The Christie—via the Individual Patient Funding Request (IPFR) process, which was often unsuccessful.
The establishment of this pilot programme has been made possible through the generous support of the Moondance Cancer Initiative, significantly improving access to care for patients across Wales. Since 2022, more than 300 Welsh patients have been referred into our service. With the financial help from Moon Dance cancer initiative many welsh people's lives have been transformed.
