Small Extensive Bowel Disease

There are several other conditions which involve disease of the small bowel which may prevent you getting nutrition orally. Although these may not be as common as other conditions, they can still cause some malabsorption which may result in you requiring home parenteral support (HPS).

Intractable Diarrhoea is a condition whereby you have persistent diarrhoea for 4 weeks or more. It is a condition that can be caused by allergies or Celiac disease.

Radiation or Chemotherapy enteritis is a condition whereby the bowel is damaged after treatment with radiation or chemotherapy and is unable to absorb some or all your daily nutrients.

Protein losing enteropathy (PLE) occurs when too much protein leaks into your bowels. PLE makes your body lose crucial proteins and you may need HPS to replace those proteins if all other treatments have failed.
