Capsule Endoscopy

Capsule Endoscopy - Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

Capsule endoscopy is a procedure that uses a tiny wireless camera to take pictures as it travels through the digestive tract. After it is swallowed, the capsule takes thousands of pictures that are sent to a recorder worn on a belt around the waist.  Capsule can be used to examine the small and large bowel and is an alternative to more invasive endoscopy investigations. In addition the equipment used allows the procedure to take place in a flexible manner, on wards or in the patient's home.
