Assessing Pain in Dementia Patients

Assessing pain in dementia patients

Assessing pain in people who are unable to communicate, such as those with moderate or advanced dementia is very difficult. When people cannot vocalise and self-report their pain, it can go undetected and untreated. This causes distress to the individuals, and results in behavioural and psychological symptoms that can be difficult for carers to manage and treat. An Ai assessment tool is used as a point of care app to identify facial micro expression indicative of pain to generate an overall pain score.
