On Tuesday 17 December four Occupational Therapists from Cardiff and Vale UHB’s Children, Young People & Family Health services were celebrated at the Thinkedi Diversity & Inclusion Wales Awards 2024.

Anne Taplin, Lead Professional/Operational Manager for the Occupational Therapy service for Children and Young People, won the Inclusive Health Professional Award.

Initially nominated by a patient’s parent, this award recognises Anne’s dedication to breaking down barriers to the service, ensuring babies, children, young people and their families can benefit from Occupational Therapy. Under Anne’s leadership the mission of the Occupational Therapy Service for Children and Young People is ‘to open our access and increase our reach’, resulting in the team designing easier ways to access the service and then ensuring patients receive inclusive care delivered with empathy.

Lauren Inglett, an Occupational Therapist at St David’s Children’s Centre was also a finalist in the Inclusive Health Professional Award. Lauren’s approach to therapy is rooted in inclusivity, and she was nominated for her commitment to creating accessible therapy solutions that meet the diverse needs of all her patients.

Occupational Therapists Katie Nash and Jon Pearson-Wood were both finalists in the Inclusive Frontline Professionals Award. This category celebrates those who go above and beyond to provide compassionate, inclusive care.

Katie was recognised for her exceptional work in supporting neurodiverse individuals and their families, while Jon, a champion of inclusive practice, was nominated for providing tailored, inclusive care to individuals from all backgrounds.

The awards ceremony took place at the International Convention Centre in Newport, shining a spotlight on businesses and professionals who are committed to designing services where everyone feels welcome and valued.
