Cardiff and Vale UHB colleague awarded MBE for services to Breast Care in 2026 New Year's Honours List

30 December 2025

Congratulations to Consultant in Oncoplastic Surgery, Eleri Davies, who has been honoured with a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2026 New Years Honours List.

Eleri has been honoured for her services to Breast Care.

Eleri has been a Consultant Breast Surgeon at the Breast Centre at the University Hospital Llandough since 2010.

She has a particular interest in patients who have an inherited predisposition to Breast Cancer such as those harbouring the BRCA 1/2 gene mutations and manages a regional risk reducing service for these women.

As well performing breast cancer surgery, Eleri also works within Public Health in the breast screening programme as well as running clinics for symptomatic breast care alongside teaching and training of junior doctors and leading the breast unit.

Eleri is passionate about running and ran her fifth marathon in Chicago last October, raising money for the Cardiff & Vale Health Charity Breast Centre Appeal in memory and support of her patients, as well as carrying out many other fundraising activities.

The money raised helps fund services for breast cancer patients such as physiotherapy sessions for patients pre- and post-surgery, complimentary therapies, specialist bras for patients undergoing mastectomy, reconstruction and further support.

Suzanne Rankin, Chief Executive and Kirsty Williams, Chair to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, said: “We are incredibly proud of Eleri for her dedicated work supporting people across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan and Wales.

“The sheer determination, dedication and hard work of Eleri and the team she leads ensures that the best possible outcomes are provided for patients at the Breast Centre.

“On behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Health Board, congratulations to Eleri on her MBE and well-deserved recognition.”

Eleri and her team at the Breast Centre featured in the BBC Saving Lives in Cardiff series 1 and 2 which aired last year. To find out more about their work, series 1 episode 6 and series 2 episode 2 can be viewed on BBC iPlayer: BBC Saving Lives in Cardiff.

Featured in the episode, Eleri said: “We have lots of treatments for Breast Cancer and even if it comes back, there is still more that we do. We never give up on anybody.”

Congratulations to everyone honoured in the 2026 New Year’s Honours List, including those who work closely with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
