Clinical Board Teams (HWODs)

Head and Assistant Heads of Workforce and OD

The Head of Workforce and Organisational Development (OD) and Assistant Head of Workforce and OD roles are professionally aligned to the WOD function, but work operationally within Clinical Boards and are managed by the Heads of Operations and Delivery.

Their roles involve leading on organisational change with operational colleagues, ensuring that development of staff is at the forefront of the Clinical Board activity.   They also manage complex employee relational issues that arise and advise the Clinical Boards on matters of leadership and employment law.

The roles are pivotal in planning and managing the Workforce and OD Tier 1 targets and contribute to the annual intermediate term planning process that all Clinical Boards undertake, helping them plan their priorities for service provision for the future.

Other Key priorities for the HoWOD and AWOD roles include:

  • sustainable workforce issues
  • focussing on recruitment retention
  • sickness management
  • OD – service transformation
  • staff engagement
  • consultations
  • prioritising appraisal systems with staff
