I have an appointment for an infusion at the Day Unit - should I attend?

  • If you are on an infusion of disease modifying therapy e.g. natalizumab (Tysabri) or ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) it is still possible for you to attend your infusion as normal.

  • We will use infection control measures in the day unit to minimise the risk of infection.

  • You must NOT attend if you are feeling unwell or someone in your household has been unwell within the past 14 days. If this is the case please call 02920 742380.

  • Some people on natalizumab (Tysabri) have had their infusion interval extended to 6-weekly as there is evidence that this offers equivalent protection against MS disease activity but may be more favourable in terms of safety (by limiting your need to attend the hospital setting, and also by allowing the immune system to better respond to any infection).

  • If you are on Ocrelizumab (Ocrevus) but prefer to pause your infusions, we are happy to defer your treatment as we know that Ocrelizumab appears to have a duration of action which is longer than 6 months. In this instance we can offer a monthly blood test, which will help us decide whether you need re-treatment in the near future. A member of the MS Team can discuss this with you if it is your preference.
