Thursday 17 March 2016 marked the official opening of Hafan y Coed, the new Adult Mental Health Unit at Llandough Hospital.
The new facility will provide a wide range of modern state-of-the-art facilities including:
- Crisis assessment ward (15 beds)
- Locality wards (51 beds)
- Psychiatric intensive care ward (10 beds)
- Addiction ward and day unit (12 beds)
- Neuropsychiatry service (12 beds)
- Male low secure wards (25 beds)
- Supportive recovery service (10 beds)

The Welsh Government invested £88 million into the new unit to provide modern, state of the art facilities for people experiencing mental health illnesses. Hafan y Coed, which means Heaven of Trees in Welsh, will be replacing the services currently provided in the outdated 108 year old Whitchurch Hospital and the Llanfair Unit.
