The Dental Clinical Board encompasses the University Dental Hospital, Community Dental Service and Designed to Smile.
The Dental Hospital treats around 100,000 patients per year and, as a teaching hospital, has strong links with the School of Dentistry. It provides dental care for patients who are screened as suitable for treatment by undergraduate dental students.
The School of Dentistry is the only one of its type in Wales and provides unique and important leadership in dental research, teaching and patient care.
The Community Dental Service (CDS) provides primary care dental services to children and patients with special requirements including the elderly and disabled. It also acts as a safety net service for patients who are unable to access NHS dental treatment. In addition, the CDS provides a wide range of preventative care through the national Designed to Smile programme, which targets children under the age of 11 in areas of high need.
